The NOIShanghai VI concert event at Yu Yin Tang and the Live Bar offered great performance from all performers involved. The first of the two day monthly showcase was somewhat structured so that each of the acts performed their own set. The second night yielded a more improvised and collaborative performance where all acts performed in whole or in part with each other. Audrey Chen (US) and Alessandro Bosetti (Germany) duet were on their concert tour of Asia.

Issue Project Room

Our first curated concert was held at the Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, NY on a sunny and warm Sunday evening. The perfomance featured one artist from each of our previous installations- Donki Ra, Nim, Green Andy, and Bujalex. All artists presented unique performances using their current composition techniques resulting in a barrage varied sounds from drone to noise to beats and back again. The final set of the show was an improvised performance where all artists merged their individual styles and creativity to create a single unique song. None of the artists have ever performed with each other previous to this concert. Enjoy.

Motoko Shimizu (Turntable) and Ed Chang (Guitar), curators of the Foundry, perform several solos and finish with a great melodic improvised duet.

Matt Hannafin (Percussion), Maria Chavez (Turntable), Sarah Bernstein (Violin), Julianne Carney (Violin) perform a wonderful set that was borderline perfection. The very dynamic pieces will awaken your speakers and fill your ears with their beautiful performance.

RICH: This was a melancholy day for me but a fiery night. With this show, Ben and I completed the NY phase of Fire&Flux. I say that we are done only with a “phase” because we plan to play again in the future, even though we now move to very different parts of the country. Ben and I played this show with everything we had. It felt to me like everything all wrapped up in one–our collective personal histories in HC/Punk, our newer, wiser selves, our telekinetic energy, 8 years of musical chemistry, and a deep understanding of the end of a good book you don’t want to finish. But there will be more pages later, when we get a chance to write them, to improvise a new chapter. Jordon Schranz from The Eastern Seaboard said of our last show: “It might have been the five cups of coffee but I think you’re playing last night definitely contributed to my wanting to smash a chair through the windshield of a police cruiser.” That’s precisely the feeling that Fire&Flux has always hoped to imbue.
