Stare are delighted to invite you and your friends to our Summer Evening Rooftop Open Air Screening of Building 173 on Saturday 20 June. See the movie in an open air environment under the (few) stars of Shanghai and enjoy some street food at the same time.
Building 173 tells the stories and secrets of one building, seven people and three generations, past and present. The building witnessed three quarters of a century of human history. It was originally a luxury apartment building called the Cosmopolitan in downtown Shanghai. Built in the early twentieth century by the Tan family, the Cosmopolitan was inhabited by an international community; with the wars and political upheavals taking place in Shanghai, the residents changed to middle class and intellectual Chinese families, and later to working class families when the apartments were divided into smaller compartments after the Communist took over.
After the screening you will have the opportunity to ask questions to the team behind the movie, including the director Petter Eldin. For further information about the film, visit our official website on www.building173.com.
The screening party will be hosted on a rooftop in the heart of Shanghai from where Building 173 can be seen. Come listen to a story about the city we live in, where the past and present Shanghai meet.
